“You can’t move forward without saying goodbye to the past.” -Anonymous
How do you say goodbye to your high school years? This transition can be so challenging, because your identity is wrapped up in your achievements, academics, and your friends. So leaving behind those formative years can feel scary or overwhelming, but it’s true that sometimes your best years are still ahead. I think that is especially true as you leave high school, since college or your early adult years are so special and exciting. Mikayla is one who has a really bright future ahead, so although she’s sad to leave behind her high school years, she’s also thrilled to step forward. She’s saying goodbye to Astronaut High School this summer after graduation, and is preparing to choose a college. Right now, she’s also volunteering at her church, and has been a senior mentor for the incoming freshman students at the school. “I’ve been a varsity cheerleader during my high school years, and cheering at an away game was one of my favorite memories”, she added, “I was with all my best friends in the rain, and under the Friday night lights.” Besides cheer, she also loves wakeboarding, snowboarding, surfing, and nearly any sporting event that she can share with friends and family. Her dogs are also something special and a big part of her life.
“I chose your senior photos because they had a really unique style catered to the person you are photographing”, she explained, “In other photography, some photos seemed rather blurry, and yours had a sense of personality. They are more than just “shoot and smile!” She envisioned a really fun, exciting session, and craved lots of angles and creativity in her shoot. We brought her vision to life in her awesome outfits, and with a laidback style that was true to her. I asked her who her biggest hero is, and she quickly said it’s her mom, adding, “She pushes every day to give our family the best life possible and still manages to get everything done even as obstacles slide her way. She truly is the brightest, most determined, and caring person I know, and I admire that.”
“I can’t wait to travel the world after graduation”, she concluded, “it’s my biggest passion, and I believe seeing new places opens my mind up to see life differently. I love the quote from Mamma Mia, which talks about making memories and traveling”. I can’t wait to see where the world takes this sweet girl next.
