3 Ways to Make Your Senior Session Memorable

As you step out of your high school years, your future stretches out ahead of you. This can be an exciting and overwhelming time, but also one that you only experience once. This is why senior photographers (like me) always emphasize how important it is that we truly KNOW our clients. We say this not because it just sounds nice, but because it does affect how your shoot comes out and how you remember such an important day in your life. Here are a couple considerations as your big day approaches:

-Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to plan your wardrobe: Some seniors leave this till the last minute, then become frustrated when the sizes or fit is all wrong. We really recommend choosing outfits earlier in the process, so that you have time to tailor, return, and try on proper undergarments with each piece. You’ll also want to do a final try-on when they are steamed and ironed, so that you get the true final look.

-Ask any questions: I have many seniors who are very soft-spoken and who may have questions or concerns, but they are nervous asking them. Please know that answering your questions is my job! I love doing it, and you are not bothering me when you bring up things you are unsure about. If anything, it makes me happy, because I can help put your mind at ease before we arrive at your session.

-Include your parent or guardian: Please know this is a big day for them, and they are excited for you! Don’t exclude them from the planning and fun, and think of ways you can share the day WITH them, even in something as small as grabbing a coffee or celebrating afterwards. Your senior year is a milestone for your parent/guardian, too.

Sweet Natalie and I had such a great time together doing her senior shoot, and she was well-prepared for a wonderful day! She is graduating from Trinity Prep School this summer, and will be attending Auburn University in the fall (War Eagle!). She is very athletically inclined and enjoys watching and playing lots of sports. In her spare time, you can usually find her at the beach or traveling with her lovely family. I enjoyed planning this shoot with her, and know Auburn will be incredibly lucky to have her!
