Guys sessions are so much fun! I love helping guys plan out their senior shoots, even if some of them are unsure or hesitant about the process. What they always come to find out is how fun the shoots are, and how much they can make it their own. Here are some awesome tips to get images like these:
Wear a variety of colors. Rich jewel tones look best in photographs whereas neons and pastels can be tricker on camera. Steer clear of busy prints or plaids that can distract from the look, and avoid graphic tees unless you are going for a specific look (or sporting your college tee).
Button downs look polished and professional and don’t have to look stuffy. Please make sure your shirt is steamed or pressed carefully and fitted to your body type. A proper fitting button down is a great look for anyone and creates a photo that can withstand the test of time!
Layers are always a good idea, and can give you a variety of looks. By layering a simple tee or basics, you can create multiple outfits from just a few pieces. This is ideal for the guy senior who likes to keep things simple.
Don’t be afraid to wear a tux or suit and tie. It’s awesome for an editorial (think GQ) look that’s modern and stylish. Be sure to choose an ensemble that fits you well and is hemmed properly to your height.
Bring your car: I love when seniors bring their cars! It’s such a piece of their personality, and can add so much to your shoot. Whether you have an awesome vintage car or a rockin’ truck, let’s figure out how we can incorporate it into your location.
Include your cap and gown. You’ve worked hard for that amazing cap, gown, and tassle, and including it is the perfect way to create your high school memories. If you don’t receive yours until much later in the year, please let me know as we have some colors we can loan out for sessions.
Bring your college t-shirt: If you’ve decided on your college, bringing college gear is a really fun way to mark that decision. A hoodie, a tee shirt, or even a pennant is a wonderful way to bring this special milestone into your session.
Show your sporting equipment and awards you’ve received: If you’ve received a trophy, certificate or special sports ring, please bring it. It is something you’ll want captured for generations to come, and we can come up with a creative way to add it to your shoot without it looking cheesy or out of place. Same goes for that awesome varsity jacket!
