Skin Detail in Senior Portraits

If I had to think of the one thing I hear most often from my senior clients, it’s their plea to look ‘like themselves.’ Sure, they want to look more polished, or even a bit glamorous, but they always want to hold their images and know it’s an accurate portrayal. A lot of this comes down to styling, and editing. I believe the styling works in tandem with getting to know them…I ask my seniors lots of questions, learn what they’re passionate about, and try to choose locations that reflect their personal fashion sense and interests.  But when it comes to editing, I work especially hard to stay true to their look.

Some senior photographers edit for an airbrushed look that can make seniors look one-dimensional and flat. It can pull out all the beautiful features, lines, freckles, and bone structure that makes you so beautiful! I take a different approach. I keep the skin looking natural with precision-sharp editing that only removes blemishes, rather than removing natural skin characteristics. I also work hard to produce sharp, clear eyes, that are true to color, without over-editing them. This is something I’ve been honing for years, and I believe every image should be treated with care and love, because that is what I’d want for my own images (or that of my family’s).

You can see some examples of my editing below, where you can very minimal blemishes have been gently removed, but every aspect of the face has been kept intact. It’s what sets us apart as a luxury senior portraiture studio, and what makes our clients beam when they see their photos!
