There is something about cheerleaders! There’s a new show on Netflix that debuted recently about the sport, and just about everyone is talking about the drive, dedication and athleticism that it takes to be a cheerleader. Gone are the days when cheerleaders were thought of as flighty or silly, and now the rest of the world can see what amazing athletes they truly are! Anna-Kate is graduating from Lake Mary in the Class of 2020, and she will be the first to tell you the amazing things that cheer has added to her life: passion, confidence, and a sense of accomplishment, among others. In fact, this beautiful girl says that cheer is the thing that makes her feel truly alive. I am so proud of her many exciting achievements, and was so pleased to do her senior session. At Lake Mary, she’s part of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, and the Key Club. English and history are the classes that she finds most interesting, and the rest of her time is spent working hard as the Varsity Cheer Captain, and on the competitive team.
As she has worked her way through her years of high school, something Anna has learned is to be less concerned with others opinions. She has really learned to be more concerned with her own personal goals, and less worried about the things she can’t control. “I’ve really learned to focus on myself, and what will make me happy, instead of what other people think that I should be doing,” she explains, “One person who has modeled this for me, and that I really look up to, is my mom. She is an incredibly hard worker.” One of her favorite quotes is by John Woodsen: “Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation.” When she isn’t working out or cheering, she enjoys soaking up time with her friends and family, and plans to travel extensively after she graduates (especially to Europe). This wonderful and amazing senior has her sights set on the University of Florida or the University of Alabama, and can’t wait to begin the next chapter of her life.
