Five Ways to Bring Fun to your Senior Shoot!

I’ve noticed that in the age of social media, sometimes the senior session is taken too seriously. I know that it is certainly an important day, and one that I want every senior to walk away from feeling confident and happy, but I also want it to hold fun memories. There is so much pressure on teens to look a certain way or to achieve a certain amount of likes or followers, instead of a focus on having senior photos that truly reflect who you are. After all, the reason you book a professional photographer is because you want an experience, not just images. Here are five ways I make sure your senior shoot is as fun as it is memorable!

  1. Capture candid images: If your whole session is filled with stiff and awkward poses, it won’t show off your real smile or your real emotions. You will be too busy thinking about arranging your body in a certain way. I love the real smiles and laughter that shows off personalities in their best light.
  2. Ask lots of questions: Your photographer (me!) is the best resource for helping you conquer nerves or anxiety over your poses or your setting. I love answering questions and helping guide you through the process. Knowing what to expect means you can relax and be yourself!
  3. Get moving! I often ask my clients to walk, sit, stand, and move, because it keeps your mind busy, and helps add a special “life” to your portraits that can’t be captured if you are sitting down the whole time.
  4. Include details: I always make sure to capture the smaller details that will set your shoot apart. Some of the ones below include wind-blown hair, pretty flowing dresses, laughter, a soft smile…they all are small things that make a big difference in the final shots.
  5. Incorporate different locations and styles: My seniors get quite a variety of locations and poses, because I know you use your photos for more than just one purpose. Whether you’re using them for grad announcements or wall prints, it is so fun to have multiple choices.

I’d love to hear any idea you may have about your senior shoot, when you book with me! I am always inspired by the fun and bright things my clients come up with!
